Isles Internship Program

Since 2001, Morven has been privileged to host interns from the Isles YouthBuild Institute for a five-week intensive gardening and landscape program. They are on site at Morven as well as visiting area sites such Drumthwacket, Rutgers Extension Service, the Trent House, and Grounds for Sculpture.

This program provides the interns the benefit of sharing in a collaborative work experience in a new environment, hands-on training in practical skills, and a solid reference for future employment. Each summer Morven hires an intern leader who supervises and works alongside the youths, as well as interfacing with Morven’s executive director and horticulturist on program development, management, and evaluation. Additionally, Morven garden volunteers often work with the interns on special projects.

At the beginning of the program, interns are provided an overall orientation, including a discussion of Morven’s history. The interns are paid a stipend at the conclusion of the program and receive certificates of completion, as well as letters of recommendation for potential employers.

Underwriting for the program is provided by Janssen Pharmaceuticals and PSE&G.
