This month’s Curator Corner will feature a star piece of Morven’s landmark exhibition Five Independent Souls: The Signers from New Jersey, the painting Congress Voting Independence by artist Robert Edge Pine. The painting is the first known American depiction of the vote for Independence, predating John Trumbull's more famous version by three decades. It is considered the most accurate known portrayal of the Assembly Room of Independence Hall.

Join Curator and Registrar Jesse Gordon Simons for a look at the competing narratives and stories the painting represents, a reflection of how we remember the signing of the Declaration and the men who signed.

The program will be held via Zoom webinar and is offered free of charge. Pre-registration is required in order to receive a link. The presentation will be recorded and shared with all registrants following the event.
