Docent Program

Docents are trained to lead engaging tours that offer visitors a deeper understanding of Morven’s rich history and its significance in both New Jersey and the broader American story.

Responsibilities

As a Docent, one would be responsible for:

  • Leading guided tours for individuals, families, school groups, and special visitors
  • Answering questions and engage visitors in meaningful dialogue
  • Assisting with occasional exhibition openings, programs, or special events
  • Participating in initial training and periodic enrichment sessions to stay informed

Schedule & Commitment

The museum is open Wednesday through Sunday, with tours scheduled at 11:00 a.m., 12:00 p.m., 1:00 p.m., and 2:00 p.m. Docents are asked to volunteer for two four-hour shifts per month. The training process to become a docent can take 4 to 6 weeks depending on staff availability. You must be sixteen years or older to volunteer as a docent.
