A Place to Take Root: A History of Flowerpots in North America
April 5 — May 28, 2006
This exhibition is the first that is devoted to the evolution of the common flower pot from Egypt up to the present day. During this exhibit, over one hundred pots are on display, with an emphasis on flowering of American designs in the 18th and 19th centuries, as well as contemporary designs.
This exhibit shows the origin of the not-so-common flowerpot, letting visitors trace its history, explore its materials and shapes, and see how it has developed in response to the changes in horticulture and garden styles, from ancient Egypt up to the present day. This critically-acclaimed traveling exhibit is also featured at the United States Botanic Garden and the Royal Botanical Garden of Canada. It complements Morven’s annual fundraiser “Morven in May.”
