Curatorial Internship

Stipend: $1500 for the semester 

Hours: 2 days per week (15 hours) / to go through the end of the semester (12–17 weeks) 

Description

The Curatorial department seeks a bright, outgoing, self-motivated individual to support Morven’s exhibitions, collections and interpretive projects. In the spring, the curatorial department will be installing and planning future exhibitions, conducting ongoing research, and continuing to maintain the collection. The spring intern will be engaged in the installation and planning of Morven’s special exhibitions. The Curatorial intern may also participate in some work with Morven’s permanent collection and archive. This internship will also offer “shadowing” opportunities, which include attending on- and off-site meetings and a chance to meet other professionals in the field. The successful applicant will report to the Deputy Director & Curator, and will work with the Curator & Registrar.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with installation of upcoming exhibition, Grave Matters opening March 2027
  • Assist with planning future exhibition on New Jersey firefighting, including attendance in planning meetings, researching objects and images for inclusion, and assisting with loan paperwork and logistics. 
  • Work with collections management database and assist with object documentation and handling 
  • Support the museum’s ongoing collections inventory project
  • Help maintain the museum’s research archive and curatorial library

Qualifications

  • Applicants should be undergraduate juniors or above.
  • A qualified candidate will possess an ability to manage multiple assignments and priorities, along with a professional attitude and demeanor. 
  • Ability to work within Google suite
  • Attention to detail in conveying accurate historical information
